About 70% of planet Earth is covered with water. Similarly, about 70% of the human body is composed of water. Without water we will not survive.

Water is very much affected in the same way as humans to emotions, particularly negative or positive emotions. It reacts positively to positive words and vice versa. See the YouTube video on a research here conducted by a prominent Japanese scientist, Mr Emoto:

It’s really easy to feel happy and surround yourself with positive energy. Just send happy and positive vibrations to every cup or glass of water or beverage you drink. Tell the water ” you’re beautiful” or “you’re the best thing I ever had”. Your positive vibes will affect the structure of the water crystals which in turn, determine the state you are in. Happy thoughts create happy people.

I always love got quotes, writings and sayings. I must also say that I’m kinda picky and will only pick those that strike me to the core. Here’s one of them, by Sonny Carroll – called “THE AWAKENING.”

A time comes in your life when you finally get…when, in the midst of all your fears and insanity, you stop dead in your tracks and somewhere the voice inside your head cries out…ENOUGH! Enough fighting and crying and blaming and struggling to hold on. Then, like a child quieting down after a tantrum, you blink back your tears and begin to look at the world through new eyes.

This is your awakening.

You realize it’s time to stop hoping and waiting for something to change, or for happiness, safety and security to magically appear over the next horizon.

You realize that in the real world there aren’t always fairy tale endings, and that any guarantee of “happily ever after” must begin with you…and in the process a sense of serenity is born of acceptance.

You learn that you don’t know everything, it’s not you job to save the world and that you can’t teach a pig to sing. You learn the only cross to bear is the one you choose to carry and that martyrs get burned at the stake.

Then you learn about love. You learn to look at relationships as they really are and not as you would have them be. You learn that alone does not mean lonely.

You stop trying to control people, situations and outcomes. You learn to distinguish between guilt and responsibility and the importance of setting boundaries and learning to say NO.

You also stop working so hard at putting your feelings aside, smoothing things over and ignoring your needs.

You learn that your body really is your temple. You begin to care for it and treat it with respect. You begin to eat a balanced diet, drinking more water, and take more time to exercise.

You learn that being tired fuels doubt, fear, and uncertainty and so you take more time to rest. And, just as food fuels the body, laughter fuels our soul. So you take more time to laugh and to play.

You learn that, for the most part, you get in life what you deserve, and that much of life truly is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

You learn that anything worth achieving is worth working for and that wishing for something to happen is different than working toward making it happen.

More importantly, you learn that in order to achieve success you need direction, discipline and perseverance. You learn that no one can do it all alone, and that it’s OK to risk asking for help.

You learn the only thing you must truly fear is fear itself. You learn to step right into and through your fears because you know that whatever happens you can handle it and to give in to fear is to give away the right to live life on your own terms.

You learn to fight for your life and not to squander it living under a cloud of impending doom.

You learn that life isn’t always fair, you don’t always get what you think you deserve and that sometimes bad things happen to unsuspecting, good people…and you lean not to always take it personally.

You learn that nobody’s punishing you and everything isn’t always somebody’s fault. It’s just life happening. You learn to admit when you are wrong and to build bridges instead of walls.

You lean that negative feelings such as anger, envy and resentment must be understood and redirected or they will suffocate the life out of you and poison the universe that surrounds you.

You learn to be thankful and to take comfort in many of the simple things we take for granted, things that millions of people upon the earth can only dream about: a full refrigerator, clean running water, a soft warm bed, a long hot shower.

Then, you begin to take responsibility for yourself by yourself and you make yourself a promise to never betray yourself and to never, ever settle for less than you heart’s desire.

You make it a point to keep smiling, to keep trusting, and to stay open to every wonderful possibility.

You hang a wind chime outside your window so you can listen to the wind.

Finally, with courage in you heart, you take a stand, you take a deep breath, and you begin to design the life you want to live as best as you can.


New Dengue virus in Malaysia

I was at the Sunway Medical Hospital to visit a friend who had been warded for Dengue fever. Yes, Dengue fever is on the rise – especially in Selangor, Malaysia. This is what the Star (20 January 2014) had to say:

Selangor had the largest increase with 1,142 cases, up by 272 cases from the previous week.

From Jan 1 to Oct 26, a total of 28,707 cases has been recorded, which represents a 58% increase compared to the corresponding period last year, said the Health Ministry in a statement on Friday.

The Health Ministry is concerned as the weekly cases this year, at more than 900, is more than twice of last year’s weekly average of 400.

The analysis for Selangor (up to June) noted that it hosted 323 of the 408 dengue hotspots nationwide, with 26 high risk areas found in the Petaling district, 19 in Hulu Langat, eight in Gombak and one in Sepang.

The rest of the outbreak areas were located primarily in Johor (37) and Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya (16), with the rest spread out over the other remaining states.

I also read about the newer, stronger strain of the virus. Previously, Dengue fever is identifiable by red spots on the body, notably the palms of the hand. The new Dengue virus, however – does not manifest the red marks. You get high fever off and on and stomach aches with nausea.

Papaya Juice – Cure for Dengue



You may have heard this elsewhere but if not I am glad to inform you that papaya juice is a natural cure for dengue fever. As dengue fever is rampant now, I think it’s good to share this with all. 

A friend of mine had dengue last year. It was a very serious situation for her as her platelet count had dropped to 28,000 after 3 days in hospital and water has started to fill up her lung. She had difficulty in breathing. She was only 32-year old. Doctor says there’s no cure fordengue. We just have to wait for her body immune system to build up resistance against dengue and fight its own battle. She already had 2 blood transfusion and all of us were praying very hard as her platelet continued to drop since the first day she was admitted. 

Fortunately her mother-in-law heard that papaya juice would help to reduce the fever and got some papaya leaves, pounded them and squeeze the juice out for her. The next day, her platelet count started to increase, her fever subside. We continued to feed her with papaya juice and she recovered after 3 days!!! 

Amazing but it’s true. It’s believed one’s body would be overheated when one is down with dengue and that also caused the patient to have fever papaya juice has cooling effect. Thus, it helps to reduce the level of heat in one’s body, thus the fever will go away. I found that it’s also good when one is having sore throat or suffering from heat. 

Please spread the news about this as lately there are many dengue cases. It’s great if such natural cure could help to ease the sufferings of dengue patients. 

Furthermore it’s so easily available. Blend them and squeeze the juice! It’s simple and miraculously effective!!

My take on alternative therapy

Personally, I have had friends telling me about the amazing curative properties of the Papaya juice for Dengue fever. I don’t doubt my friend, especially the Papaya-plant derived Enzyme Papase is medically-proven to fight inflammation. Other alternative therapy, especially Tiger Milk Mushroom has been proven to work for asthmatics. 

With pollution reaching all-time high levels and pesticide-abuse dominating agriculture – it’s only a matter of time when we discover that our foods are no longer nutritious nor sustainable. I have always been a firm believer in alternative therapy and naturotherapy.



Not a pretty sight, I know. The picture above shows my foot bundled up like a Christmas present after visiting the Wan Seng Acupuncture Centre. And nothing to be jolly about after taking a tumble during one of my escapades to Fraser’s Hill.

I slipped and tumbled over some mossy steps somewhere near the waterfall. According to Dr Ng Wan Seng, I sprained my ankle. Rule no.1: Do not go exploring around mountain hikes wearing Crocs. That’s a definite no-no! My new year 2014 resolution is to get me a pair of hiking boots.

I was practically limping on the day I sprained my ankle. And the next couple of days. After scouring the Internet for sprained ankles, the only good news I read was that it would normally take 6 weeks for it to heal. Normally! Huh!

Because of my workload, I limped my way to Dr Ng’s at the Wan Seng Acupuncture Centre AFTER nearly 2 weeks. He explained to me that I slipped, tumbled and landed on my feet in a particular way. Gee – I know how Jack & Jill must have felt like!

Dr Ng then proceeded to rub some ointment on my ankle and bandaged it with smelly, sticky Chinese herbs (refer to the black spots on my ankle bandage in the photo above). To “activate” the healing properties of the herbs, I need only apply a few drops of any traditional Chinese muscular pain ointment to the herbs and re-bandage my ankle again for the next 3 days.

I’m not making this up – even after the next day, my limping had subsided tremendously. I could walk a bit normally with a slight limp – but with a marked improvement.

Yes – Dr Ng at the Wan Seng Acupuncture Centre not only dispense acupuncture treatments, but also treats sprains, dislocations, broken bones and stuff like that.


Ever since I started travelling by train to Kuala Lumpur from my hometown in Segamat, which was a good 150km away – I had always been fascinated by that mode of travel. There were times I had to board the midnight train, only to arrive my destination early in the morning.

Destination. One small word. A world of meaning.

I am writing this as my first post for 2014. And also penning my thoughts following my old friend’s passing away after a battle with liver cancer.

Life is like a train ride. We board the train at the train station while others disembark. Once seated, we look around and see new faces, strangers. Some looking at you, some engrossed with looking for their seats. This analogy is very much like the day we were born into this world. As we enter the world, we look around us wondering where our “seats” are – peering at the new faces around us. The person or persons seated next to us are our parents, the people closest to us.

We chat with the persons seated next to us, exchanging stories. Others may join us and we become a family, sharing stories of a similar topic. We laugh, we smile, we sit deep in thoughts. Often, we’d peek outside the window and see where we are. This is like our lives, looking outside to see where we’re heading for or are we on time.

Along the way, some of those seated next or near to us – the people whom we have had the pleasure of sharing out stories with – disembark. We say our goodbyes and even wave as the train pulls away. We feel as if we’ve lost someone who had share our joys. These people are very much like the people who had to leave us at one point of our lives – our best friends, relatives, parents and even a separation or divorce. We feel the pain of their leaving us but we must understand that that is their destination. They have fulfilled their purpose in shaping our lives.

Good. Bad. Right. Wrong – we have to see them on their way as we head for our own destination. The person we fell in love with at the beginning of our train ride has disembarked – much like the divorce or their passing away. We cannot stop them as that is their destination as well as it is ours.

Love. Joy. Hatred. Guilt. When those persons seated next to you left – we must learn to let go, and not cling to our emotions, for our journey ahead is ours, and ours alone. We have a choice of making our journey a happy or sad one. A person disembark, another embarks and come into your life – sharing stories once more.

It’s the journey, the experience and the fulfillment that counts. The riches, wealth, poverty, happiness or pain you and other passengers bring on the journey is not important. What’s important is the journey itself. Your journey. How will you write the ending once you’ve arrived at your destination?

Will you regret for having that train ride? Will you be happy or sad once you’ve arrived? Will you take on yet another journey?

I received a good comment from a person who calls himself/herself Moo. I believe he/she is from San Francisco. Here’s his/her comment:

“A monk was in downtown SF and stopped me to donate money.  I told him i didn’t have cash and he suggested a bank machine.  I told him i needed to get something from a store and be right back.  after i got my  needed item, I left in the opposite direction to avoid him!  I felt bad but was suspicious and just looked up the info here if monks could beg for money!”

Here’s my quick reply:

Dear Moo,

Monks are not supposed to be traipsing around town asking for donations. In Asian Buddhism, especially REAL monks from Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand – they are even prohibited from touching money. So don’t be taken in by these fake monks. I know they dress like the real McCoy – but go ahead, ask them to recite a sutra and see if they can.

This really made my day & Mr Chong Yoon Yen

These days, one hardly have the opportunity to receive good news. Well, this is one of them, written by Miss Harpal Kaur. And this is what she wrote:

“Hi, i would like to share some of my experience with everyone. My sister have fractured her leg. She dislikes to go hospital. Until one day, someone recommended me to bring her to Mr Chong. My sister conditions was very bad. By looking into her eyes, you can say she is in full pain. After several treatment with Mr Chong, what i can say now is that her conditions have improved a lot. She can walk even better and looks more cheerful. Regarding the long waiting time for the appointment, my experience is waiting is nothing compare with the pain. I really love receiving comments and emails like this, for it means that my contribution towards society is well received. More than that, it means my recommendations (on natural healing) didn’t fall on deaf ears. Take note that there are a lot of shams out there, people professing to have the “cure all” elixir. As for me, my articles about Mr Chong Yoon Yen and Dr David Mun are drawn from my personal experiences.

I visited Mr Chong today
Yes I did but it was for Ian, my eldest son. I walked into his clinic yesterday morning (about 10:00 am) and was told by the ever jovial Mr Chong that there will not be any further consultations for the day as there were too many patients.

He told me to come back at night, around 10:30 pm. “But please give a call first before coming”, he said. I called up last night at about 9:30 pm and he said it would be past midnight before our turn. So we decided to postpone the appointment to this morning.

My son and I waited for nearly 2 hours before we were called in. Yes, he is that famous and yes – he sometimes stays up as late (or early) as 4:00 am just to treat his patients. That is Mr Chong’s high level of commitment towards those who have faith in his healing abilities.

My son’s ailment
My eldest son had been suffering from a bad back and stiff shoulders. Apparently, even acupuncture didn’t help. Mr Chong rubbed some ointment on my son’s back and transfused some “Qi” into his back. Immediately, my son told me he could feel the improvement. Previously he couldn’t stand straight because of the persistent pain but just minutes after the treatment he could!

My problem – stiffness in my limbs
Of late, I experienced stiffness in my limbs and sometimes, I’d get a tingling sensation. Mr Chong gave me an advice – (don’t laugh!) – walk inside a swimming pool! Or the sea. If people think I’m crazy, let them be. Because according to Mr Chong – the resistance due the water can help strengthen the limbs!

Can’t call Mr Chong for an appointment?
Please call Mr Chong for an appointment AFTER 12:00 NOON. He may or may not answer your calls during therapy but he won’t answer calls BEFORE 12:00 noon. So, be patient. And even he may indicate a your appointment time – but it may a jolly 2-hour wait for your turn. Please be patient! All good things come to those who wait & patience is a virtue!

Thanks for the sharing Markkay …. after reading your blog here, i did call and made an appointment to see Dr David Mun because i was having very BAD cough, bad until i can’t sleep peacefully and it’s even worst then asthma attack … always have to use the inhaler which is really bad bad bad.

I went to western Drs and few chinese physicians and also acupuntures … it didnt really work for me. I didn’t have any history of asthma but due to lots of stress and we have to blame the weather as well … very poluted air and haze keeps coming back … made me started to fall sick easily due to my immune system went down.

Until i went to see Dr David Mun … he has a very serious face but i know he is a nice person.

Yes, i agree with your saying, without saying a word he started writing the prescription … and when i asked him WHEN do i need to see Dr again … he answered me with confidence “after taking all the medicines if you are OK, why do you need to come back?” HAHAHA

See .. this made me even have more confidence with Dr David Mun … *Smile*

After taking 2nd packet of herbs … i really felt so much better, i can sleep soundly throughout the night and less coughing … even after the first prescription, i could feel it.

Now i am waiting for my 3rd packet and see how i feel. I am sure you will recover soon from what i have been gone through past few months …. it’s really torturing to fall ill …. Health is so very Important.

I am good, and thank you for enquiring about my health. I work like crazy nowadays and I must apologise if I don’t write on my blog any more. Oh yes, another word of advice – try going for long walks every day. It really helps!

What you don’t see doesn’t mean it’s not there

Some people have questioned my belief in alternative medicine and traditional therapies. Of all people, being English educated yet believes in “old wives tale” (so to speak) and “unproven” medicine.

Well, every branch of modern medicine is a product of years and years of painstaking research, analysis and cross-analysis, testing and application. The end result is a synthetic medication which you ingest to only treat the symptom, not the root. For example, chemotherapy treats the symptoms of cancer. It eradicates the mutated cancer cells at the price of eliminating the good cells.

I know of a person who have had gamma radiation surgery to remove a brain tumour. Remove, but not completely “removed”. After several years, further brain scans detected that the malignant growth was still there, albeit in a dormant state.

There are those who scoff at the efficacy of curative herbs. The tiger milk mushroom for example, is an excellent remedy for respiratory illness and other problems. Consider this testimony by a friend who was given Tiger Milk Mushroom:

I am a 62 year Chinese man who has been suffering from auto immune disease (rheumatoid arthritis) for the last 40 years. I also have an enlarged prostate, poor liver and kidney functions and chronic cough due to bronchitis.

As for myself, I know that the leaf from the Lemon Eucalyptus tree is excellent for colds. I travel up to this place periodically to collect the leaves. You can either steep the leaves in hot water and drink it, or I prefer using it for my aromatherapy pot which makes my room fragrant.

There is another plant (I don’t know the name though) which a good friend calls “jungle tea”. It has a bitter taste but it has excellent detoxifying effects. I collected some leaves, dried it in the sun and drink it from time to time.

Then there are those who scoff at the existence of ghosts, saying that it is one’s figment of imagination. I have captured a picture of two ghosts on print which I am deign to publish it here again. Trick of light? Photoshop? I myself am convinced of their existence, and for me; that’s enough.

There are those who scoff at traditional Chinese pharmacopoeia and “Qi” (or living force). Chinese medicine has been in existence longer than western medicine. Instead of treating the symptoms, it goes to the root of the problem. The herbal concoction dispensed by the herbalist has a threefold effect – cleanse, invigorate and rebuild. Instead of eliminating the illness or problem by invasive treatments and surgery, Chinese medicine helps the body to rebuild its immunity to overcome the problem.

Qi? Sounds pretty occult and oriental huh? I have seen Qi practitioners snuff out candle light metres away. I have seen Qi practitioners putting their palms onto the patient’s body, causing the body to convulse as if electrified. I myself practice Qigong (the art of living force) and I know of its beneficial effects. If modern man believes in the existence of WiFi, 3G radio waves that allow them to communicate distance away – why don’t they accept that inside every living being there is a life force?

Can’t call Mr Chong Yoon Yen?

For those who have been emailing me to ask for Mr Chong’s mobile number, and those who cannot contact him – well, I walked into his clinic today and spoke to him. 

His number is 019-336 6718. He will only entertain calls after 12:00 noon because of the number of patients waiting for him.

My advice is, if you cannot contact him – go to his clinic early (before 9:00am preferably) and take your number. When I went there at 11:00am, all numbers had already been taken up and  a “FULL” sign was there.
