Really, I didn’t even know this place existed.
I’m referring to the Kuala Gadah Elephant Sanctuary which is just about an hour away from Kuala Lumpur.
I met a good buddy who had just taken his family there. According to him, the entrance fee is very reasonable (less than RM10 per person). There’s even a honey bear sanctuary there where you can touch, play and maybe even cuddle the bear.
I scoured the web and came up with this: http://www.impressions.com.my/RelatedServ/Klshortmain/ele_sanc/ele_sanc.htm.
According to my buddy, getting there is easy. Just use the Karak Highway and exit and Bukit Lanchang. Then follow the roadsigns.
One of the highlights there is the Elephant ride. It seems you get to sit on the pachyderm and it’ll take you on a river crossing ride. In the middle of crossing the river, it’ll toss you INTO the river and squirt you with water. Don’t worry – the river’s not deep and there are very dedicated park rangers in the river waiting to catch young children in case they panic.
So if you really & truly want a holiday with nature – this is the place to go. I haven’t gone yet but will probably go there very soon.
