You see what you want to see

There was once this man who tried to help a lady friend. Being a married man, his wife didn’t take too kindly to his helping his friend. Accusations were shooting all over the place. Being grateful, the woman who received the help expressed her thanks (in words) in a manner that turned the world upside down.

We choose what we want to see.

By being helpful, you are seen to be taking advantage.

By being kind, you are seen to be having an extra-marital relationship.

By being quiet, you are seen to be harbouring dark secrets.

By being yourself, you are seen to be not “being” the person you “ought” to be.

People often dictate how you should run your life. How you should be doing things, never giving a thought how you feel. People are selfish by nature and this is why they will see you as what they want you to be. Similiarly, being truthful will make you a liar, and being a liar somehow will make you “truthful”.

Life’s a paradox.
